21. Journal 7 July The breeders, took data from the metabolic cages, weighed in new juveniles and cleaned up. By this time, it was nearly 1700. I wrote notes and selected an animal for the metabolic cages to replace the one that died earlier. A bright sunny day with a fairly strong wind from the east. It has been decided that Childs & Muller will partake of the first trip to the Draru. Holmes would like me to join him in a trip to Steroink Lake day after tomorrow but I can't give an answer yet. Childs is anxious to start the line-trapping but the Draru trip may force things up. 8th July Barrow, Alaska Strong cold wind blowing from the east early this morning. A large lead in the ice pack occurred starting the eventual dissolution of the pack near shore. Steve Holland and I did routine colony work and then thoroughly cleaned the metabolic cages for the next experiment. We picked up some shoveling about 1100 from the shop. The Draru trip was postponed because of the Banks Island trip, Childs & Muller are scheduled to go. Holmes wants very badly to go but has too much work to begin in 4-5 days. The Draru trip will be put off and then Muller & Logothetis will be the stars while I help Hank set the line-plot in action and learn its function.
