Journal 5 July Barrow, Alaska Steve Holland & I finished the colony work by 1030, three adults from yesterday's delivery died. All to juveniles lived. About 1130, Steve & I picked up woodshaving from the shop. Worked on some notes for the colony. After lunch, I advised Holland in skinning a lemming and then went with Holm to collect birds and check nests in Britt's area. After dinner, since all the snow (95%) had melted off, Logtman & I picked up lines VII & VIII and XIII & XIV. These lines are practically completely under water. The wind came from the west for awhile but almost completely stopped in the evening. 6 July Barrow Alaska Routine colony work started by 0830 was finished by 1000 I talked, and mostly listened, to a discussion involving Chiba and Mullen about the number of lemmings present. At 1030 Holland and I took the samples of urine and feces from the matutuolic cages during this third day of the experiment involving Depotia as the main diet. After lunch, Hank Chiba & I staked out the second plot for buttrapping and dumped the live traps. A very sunny day with a mild breeze from the east insured perfect weather for the evening Softball game with the Eskimos. Picked up 5 new lemmings in the village. before returning. 7 July Barrow, Alaska Had a very late start. Steve Holland was already working in the colony when I arrived. I finished weighing
