(4.) Five barnswings taken, put in pack. Put in colby. Very active.
(5) 2 Bubs, 8" high no dimorphisin. Black head and belly;
Head w/ white scarf; back mottled brown. High
pitched song, but like a short whistle. On high ground
near lake. Checked Peterson - Golden Clover.
(6) 8+9 Longspurs on ground flapping wings (both)
in a type of scuffle. Appeared that the male attempted
to mount the female. Female immediately flew; I
don't know how fast the copulation act is, whether
[illegible] whether this is the length of the act or not.
After female flew, male went through the display
pattern & flying nearly straight up and gliding down
while singing.
7. More pintails & oldsquaws here. Number 5+6
respectively.
Incidentals: [illegible] pair seen.
2 other pairs of Longspurs. 2 pairs of Bunting.
On a drier dry slope just SE of ARL, noticed patches
of yellow buttercup-like flowers.
All our exposed tundra - the grasses are becoming greener
at the bases, growing upward further w/ each day.
