15 June Had to speak to May Brewer about. After everyone
was in airology except Holmes (who was at Skrowit),
We counted snap traps and found we were short.
Muller arrived about 0900 and explained that he
still had some in the field. After coffee we sampled
lemmings for blood in the barrel area. Five were also
brought back for the colony. We returned a little before
11am. On the way out I cut through part of the
Barrel area to check the live traps. One was
captured and another donated by Gil Challet from the
same area. During lunch, Hank Childs and I
were told our trip to Wainwright to set traps,
(previously planned this morning) was scheduled
for about 1400. Hank & I talked to Brewer until
time to leave. The trip down was uneventful. Most
snow gone, most ponds still iced.
15 June Wainwright (LZIII), Alaska
I showed Hank the lines and was able to
set one line for him and drop the traps on the other
before the plane came. The Eriophorum is starting
to sprout. A few, here patches of snow. Part of lines I
and II with large amounts of water. No lemmings
were seen moving. The station meteorologist related
an instance of several lemmings moving about 1200
near the site a little earlier. Two pomarine
jaegers and one snowy owl seen. Return
flight uneventful. Arrived about 1745.
