5. 1963 13 June JOURNAL The area around line IX + X and Gasline Ridge To collect lemmings. We caught two near IX+ X but none at Gasline Ridge. We returned by lunchtime. I set the two additivis up in the colony after lunch while Steve was oiling and baiting snaptraps. We baited 10 live traps and took them to the barrel area to be set. We returned and straightened up the "backyard" airology. We finished oiling and baiting snaptraps. After dinner and the movie we wrote notes. Hank Childs came in today. June 14 Barrow, Alaska I fed and watered the small colony first and removed one dead lemming taken on the 13th. Hank & Steve started soaking some traps in linseed oil. I repaired as many of the broken snaptraps as possible and threw the rest away. After coffee time, Dave, Bill Jacobsen, Hank, Steve & I went for blood samples and to collect lemmings. First stop was between the "little freeway" and Family Lagoon. No lemming was seen nor caught. The next two stops in Voth area by the Old Cokeaster site and the area west of Voth area north of lines IVA & B, yielded nothing. Upon returning, one lemming was found near the road to the village. We went back to the Barrel area and found 4) 3 for blood
