D. Stinne Journal 11 June 1962 St. Barrow Alaska Clear day, high scattered clouds. Temp - 58° at 1100. Snow melting off fast on Tundra. ¼ mi SE of ARL on body of water were about 8 pintails, majority were drakes. One, new to me, present. Has pintail Tail feathers w/ eye patch (light) on black head and neck Rump and lower body is white. Upper wing coverts have light brown arrows pointing distally. Did not frighten easily; pintails left as soon as we exposed ourselves- this one did not until we threw something near it. Checked Betram - 3 old squaw. ARL AIRPORT WATER (5.) (1.) POW (4) Recovery? (2) Beach Ridge (DRY) (3.) x (4.) x (2) On a slope ascending Beach Ridge, mammal said which was larger than a bounding, at least a foot long. Ran low to the ground for about 25 feet & then disappeared. Was a dark brown. Found some tracks leading to broken ice. (1.) (3.) 2 dead lemmings found. Taken back to Mullens for autopsy.
