Journal Aug 24, 1962, St. Barrow, Alaska; Dick cut back into the areas by the ponds to observe the flocks of phalaropes, a few Dillin, Sandlilings, western sandpipers and a few Dowitlers. We stuck in some mud and lost an hour and a half trying to get out, finally with success. Didn't make it to the Point. Overcast day with a stiny wind from the east. Temp. is around the 40s low forties. Aug 25, 1962, St. Barrow, Alaska; Wind started from NW, then came in stiny from the west. Temp. was about 41°F in the morning and then climbed over (to two degrees) as the day became very mild. I did the routine work in the colony, cut more acetopola for the Micronus and then did some packing. Holmes is scheduled to leave Tuesday, the 28th and I will go on the 29th with Piper. Aug 26, 1962, St. Barrow, Alaska; Overcast day with some drizzle and a constant wind from the west. Temp. stayed around 40°. Worked in the colony most of the day with the routine work. Dick & Bill Challet went to Gull Lake about 1430 and returned about 2130. Aug 27, 1962, St. Barrow, Alaska; Overcast day with rain starting hard about 1600 Wind from west all day. Did part of the routine colony work and started setting up the blood gear for Dave. Dave arrived about 1800 and we sampled
