7 in x 3 1/2 in one petiole (but lower leaves larger) Corolla above ovary of 5 filiform, sheaths white, with 6 hairs. Inflorescence about 1-flgld. Flo solitary on pedicels 4-7 in. with small leaf bracts on peduncle & pedicels. Involute bracts rate 2 or 3 series. Receptacle pyramidal, pitted, chaffy. Calydris remains of flo heads left with no flo or developed stamens. Andro and stamens are pubescent, pappus consists of crown of scales with awns. Deers p 37 West Indian Grass. Perhaps from Denman's Bay 3rd scale & palest dark brown. 3rd scale hearded on leaf edges. 4th scale smaller & hooded with swollen base.
