BVH-832 = O. calix Veitch Box 249 ? 5-12-31 Crobanche caryophyllacea Smith Cat III 69 Fl. Root bet V-Mv Allion. St 8 in high, 4-5mm diam, swollen to 10 mm diam at base. Cross section yellowish, with lighter core. St. gland-pub. yellowish to flesh color reddish. Scales about 15 mm long. Flo 8. youngt-spreading, not tightly packed but close enough to overlap 1/3-1/2 if pressed together. Corolla 23mm long, yellowish, fringed reddish at edges with veins (not very strongly marked) reddish to- ward edges, gland-pubescent outside on jagged edges, [illegible], tubular, curved. Stamens inserted within 2 mm of base, hairy at base (more than "mm free" but perhaps not "free") with a few gland pub hairs to apex. Stigma mecon, ie dull reddish not "purpure nitidre. The lobes flower lip? corolla seem equal. Bracts about as long as corolla or a little shorter. Calyx 10 mm (ie. about 1/2) tube of corolla. Consisting 3 parts widely separated behind but meeting then separate in front. Each sepal with a short obtuse lobe in front (hidden under bract) and a narrow lanceolate lobe (which is all that shows). Fl. has faint pleasant odor + Note: this spec may not be as large as normal as it seemed secondary growth. Pulchro O. Epithymum DC Cat III 69 (in spite of some characters asdesc. to O. caryophyllacea) Box 343. Query: Do this not = O. tubid, Sm.
