7-29-31 Arctium tomentosum Miller SVI 700 (See BVA 258) = Lapfea tomentosa Lamb. Cortt #404. Red, Neralley. Needs in corymb, peduncles about 1in. invol spherical 2.5cm diam, bracts spreading or ascending (more a.t.s. reflexed), 1mm wide(at- point where no longer appressed) tapering to fine ineurved lobes, slightly toothed & entire all connec- ted by cobwebby hairs. Innermost bracts purpl. square topped or apiculate (not horked), shorter than flo. 7-29-31 Arctium nemorosum Lej. SVI 700, BVA 258 = Lapfea nemorosa Kornicke Cortt #723. Red, Shotway up ravine at Cafe des Narcisses. Plant (as remembered) with spreading wand like branches. Infl. of almost sessile heads, distant in axils of lvs or very short branches(1in) bearing 2-3 proximate heads. Wide effect elongate & narrow racemose. Heads spherical, quite glabrous, the lower bracts reflexed. Bracts almost 1mm wide (at point where no longer appressed). This agrees fairly with desc SVI except normal bracts not red (a.t.s.) But note BVA II ell 514 says "apicula tollors" & obs. not found in this part of, when studied specimen... whole withered specimen [See 8-13-33] 7-29-31 Campanula rotundifolia L. Cortt # 501, Box 199
