7-19-31 several short, almost filiform bracts. Involved staminal tube. 7-19-31 Tagetes patula L. BMGCP 778 Fl. Cult thin Calyx not gland-dotted. Lobes of disk corolla very hairy inside. Most of hairs same yellow as corolla but those at tips same red as markings on ray. Scales of papery stigmatic cut on blunt tip or whole length (when awned) 7-19-31 Malva silvestris L. Conte I 286, Bon 55, BVH 96 & 568, BMGCP 484 (See 6-24-31) Fl v meripae fl. Thin edge of woods at Placemond. Edm & M. rotundifolial 7-22-31. Staminal tube & filaments rosy purple. Ovules ov stigmas dark purple. Pollen white. Carpels beginning to show wrinkles on face. Axis about 2.5 mm diam & conic at top. Petals slightly pubescent inside, towards base and lower bearded as desc. 6-24-31. Hairs on st. sometimes def. starry. Lvs (at least upper ones def. 3-lobed (middle lobe longest) with 2 more usually less def towards base. 7-20-31 Melampyrum cristatum L. Conte II 58, Bon 240, BVH 354 Fl v young fl. Weed in Dr. Reeds yard. Dif from desc (BVH) in that only purple is flow or anthers Bracts now green, yellow at base, sometimes faintly by bronzed.
