Fields 20. ?Barachois Blk and (in very early bud)
on seaward bluffs below. General look suggests
Cornus canadensis. Distinguished from Gentiana
amarella var. acuta, when not in fl., by its
not being auriculate clasping at base and
unridged grooves or st. alternating in the nodes
narrower v less distinct.

7-17-29 Gentianacea
Same as 7-16-29. Same locus. Very young buds only.
Cfd with Gentiana Amarella L. var acuta Nelder
(? 7-17-29 ident. unquestioned?). Anthers at this stage
2 mm, reaching almost to tips ? corolla lobes while
G.A.-a. basanthers 1mm reaching less than
halfway to tips of corolla. (very flatter then G.A.a.
but stigmas seem the same. Oules many
covering most inner surface while in G.A.a.
there are 4 distinct rows, 1 row each side ? suture?
Filaments affixed only slightly below sinus ?
corolla while in G.A.d. they are affixed near
base of corolla tube. This is not as common as G.A.a
which, in turn, is less common than Halenia
deflexa. All spec found were bet. mouth ? Bar-
achois v the brooklet where there were a few-
