Perigynium globular, 3½ mm diam, orifice seems
closed except for protruding (2) stigmas, fleshy, pale
translucent green. A cluea leuculae. Stalks of
spikes sometimes direct thru an empty per-
igynium sessile in axil of bract. Scales broad,
white or brown, with green mid-rib. [See 8-19-29]

But 1st glume almost (certainly more than ½) as long as
2nd. Stamens 2.
