Glabrous except for brown wooliness edging petioles basal v lower lo. v whitish wooliness in axils upper lo. v similar hair (prob. a. condensuora) on young lo. v in inflor (perhaps bracts of invol). Basal lo 1x1½in. reniform volicules, rounded at apex v cordate at base (hence not like ill. discide S. St. distant by eff. to top lo. becoming lysate (number of lateral segments increasing toward top.) Petiole upper lo. narrowly winged v expand- ed at base into toothed, clasping ears. Heads discrep. Bracts of invol. woolly ciliate v purple at tip [N.B. 8-2-29 Since this was in early bud it may have had rays not yet distinguishable.
