8-1-29 stipes not abundant. (C) like (B) as to being glabrous var elongated lower panicles. But from not as triangular in effect, 20 1/2 in X 2 in. Scales of stipe numerous & darker at base. Panicles in (B) v (C) seem more decurrent than in var. intermedium & 8-1-29 #95 8-1-29 Trietum melicoides Rueltes var majus Hult. C 739 (See Graphophorum melicoides Bedow- BoBI 362). Bud in sand on island opp. mouth D Trout Bk. Tufted, 12 in (or perhaps more in full fl.). Roots fibrous, thickly matted, yellowish. Lower sheaths decidedly pubescent. Blades sparsely pilose on upper surface. Spikelets 7mm long. Glumes unequal, the 2nd floral e longer, equaling the 1st lemma. Edges of glvs hyaline. 1st glume 1-nerved, 2nd 3-nerved, scab- rous on keels. Rachilla prolonged beyond 2nd flt v like callus hairy. Lemmas minutely scabrous on the keel (keel not very definite ap. below), awless or with minute awn (not more than 1/2mm.) placed about 1 mm below the tip. Apex not markedly acute v obtuse. Lemmas obscurely 5-nerved, the nerves often made indistinct by the broad hyaline margins of stipes. General effect silvery-
