mention this char. for any species [L.]
L leaf 2-foliate, the lobes and simple (often very oblong) tendril, the upper with branched & much curling tendrils. Petiole 3-15mm (seem to vary without def. reference to position not but uppermost usually short). Stipules half arrow shape otherwise entire except for both in genus. Upper lobes about 8mm [these often as long as petiole (Bar. v Cote)] the lower narrower.
2fts [upper lobe 6-8cm long & 3-5mm wide distinct ly veined, these] lower lobes about 2cm x 2.5mm. > to "setaceos" (Bar), but might easily be called "lineares-allonges" (Cote). Fls solitary or slender non-aristate peduncles &> 2cm long [is longer than petiole & oblong than lob]. Peduncles with short upwark-curved hairs, and articulate near top.
Fls bricked (same as L. sphaericus) 10mm overall (when withered), Calyx glabrous, 4 mm long the teeth about equal & equal to tube. Pod shaped as if (Cote v Bar), the largest (now) 25 x 7mm with 2-3 seeds. Pod def. aristate, pubescent on edges, not at all channelled on back, very flat (now)
Style twisted. Note: the angle & width of lfts are the only real stumbling blocks in ident.
Cf with L. sphaericus with its narrower less def aristate peduncle and with L. Cicera with its pod channelled on back.
