level. Peduncles 2-5 in long, somewhat enlarged at top. Receptacle semi-spherical densely covered with scales. Scales thin, flat, shallowly 3 lobed at top the middle like a olint flat. tooth. Scales wedge shaped, 5mm long x 3 mm at top. Achenes whitish, glabrous, thin (yachops winged) crowned with broad calish base of corolla tube which falls off leaving a small thin membrane at apex achene posteriorly. Radial scales achenes missing but all the rest seem equally developed. No lvs. eff with Asteriscus spinosus where scales are folded (V shaped) v Chrysanthemum whose bracts are thicker more spreading v Achenes quite different. 11-14-30 Plantago Lagopus L. Ruth 49, Bee 380 Bot 260 (only in inflated condition collected). R.P. set Porto d'Anca x S. Maria. Heads cylindrical, never more than 1 in high, so dense v silky the indiv flo not discernible by eye. Very dif from R. P. albicane L. @ 11-14-30. Bractv calyx like very thin with a dark nerv (at least one) showing plainly @ lvs @ infl part 2-3mm long. Note that R.P. al- bianca @ 11-14-30 has much longer spikes, each fl distinct, often interrupted at base. Bractv calyx firmer v gen effect much less silky, scape stouter. P. L. agopus has scape more def. ridged than P. albicans & twisted.
