from rid just shortly below divide on east side not sure that plant & riff stems are same species but seems probable St (without infl) & in high woody branching (no root CR), densely white woolly even on older parts. Dead approximate low to take on younger shoots at tips of branches lvs are thick (perhaps hardly fleshy, ob lanceolate of those or rounded, narrowed to indefinite but partly clasping petiole, to 5 1/2 x 1 cm, en- tire, densely white woolly both sides. Infl. at. to 6 in (perhaps enlarged at base) lvs linear distant & gradually becoming very alert stiff about 1 in high, approximate branches which bear near tip several H-heads on short pedicels. Heads (a.t.s.) almost globular (bracts not at all spreading) about 5mm high. Bracts in many series, scarious, thin, shining, golden yellow to brown in more withered speci- mens. Pedicels with a few bracts like those miscell but smaller. No seeds found. St & pedicels densely white tomentose woolly. Edges of lvs not revolute in fullest lvs, if not this must be some form of H. steechiae D.C.
