Segs pinnatifid (or lobed) & very spinily. wide, deeply pinnate dentate (wide sinuses) each tooth consisting 1 spine. Outermost teeth with 5-7 of these spiny teeth next series with fewer as many (spines) ten with small dored spine at base, innermost teeth unarmed. Receptacle conical & upper part now without achenes or scales of any sort. The few achenes remaining at base of receptacle have no pappus & may be wrapped in scales.
