(2ft or more across at top) very compound. Infl. looks spiky because the partition bet the 2 seeds of each fl remains on pedicel. =A. Plowago L. Bes 433. Sm 290, Cote III-294 16-3-30 # Ailena Plowago-squarea L Kn I-384 BOT**48B Fls. to fl or lvs. Along shore so. # Puerto Pollensa ford not far from Tamarisk Pt. # Dead, 1o more than 2 ft. Much branched, branches being in verticls 3 (sometimes 1-2 add smaller ones) these again similarly branchd, the ultimate branchlets bearing at tip what appears to be an unequal rayed umbel (3 or more rays) Rays 1/2 - 1 in long. Fruiting head 4 mm high # 3+mm across, consisting # 10-15 free carps. suggestive # Malvaceae (but no common axis) These carps are oblong, thin edged inside, flat sided & flattened or ridged or depressed on outside. Inside edge at top apiculate as tho it with remains # atigma. Carps oblique base & when detached from receptacle bear behind a minute thorn which evidently attached seed directly to receptacle
