Neck of palea as hairy as nerves & lemma.

Fr. Bet. Cathedral Quarry v San Rafaela. Differs
from B. pinnatum P. Beauv var ramosum 4-25; 11-27, 8 12-13-30 in stipes shorter & longer
( to 49 inc.) with branches only at very base or
none. Lvs elongated 8-18in, some(?) old (dead)
only 6min wide v flat tho younger ones
(when studied 1-27-31) were setaceous
involute. Spikelets 8v9 or so culmes.
Lower lemmas barely mucronate, upper
lemmas 9 mm or all with awn 1 mm.
This is part B. phoenicoides Roem v S. Cote
III 667 = B. pinnatum P.B var australe Ledg
Ber 515. Lvs glaucous v this nerve perhaps
not quite equal (Cote) prob not as meagre
as desc. for B. pinnatum.
1-22-3? Ononis Natrix h. (see 1-16-31) Dead plant
with fr. Near Cathedral Quarry. 20+in high
very bushy, def. woody at base. Pods 10mm
long [Cote says 15-20] Seeds pale, finely corr-
ed with dark colored dots. Very unequally
