Lower part [infl has none of these awned] fructing scales (at ls) but seems to consist of 1-fl spikelcts), 3 scales: outer scale about 8mm long, rather narrow, many nerved, acute, glabrous, rather falcate twisted so that they overlap nearly along radius, winged on one or both margins. next scale rather similar but narrower [really the two are placed hany wedged together rather likea lemma vs palea), 3rd scale very thin & hyaline somewhat glaucy, with remains of stamens. There lower fl- spikelcts seems to be in pairs: 1 sensile the other slight pedicell. 3 stamens found in both spikelcts. The 3rd vs (pos 4th) scales shorter than 1st & 2nd? These spikelcts are found also in upper part [infl where the rachilla disarticulates, otliquely in sections bearing 10 or 19 spikelcts tho as desc above. the ? spikelct seems in the natural course to come of alone. Plant glabrous. Culm slender to 2 ft tall, tufted, each culm only alt at base by imbricated scales, short livy with distant flat and sheathes stipules almost to top. Lvs flat, rough above, 1 1/2-4 1/2 in long, 3-3mm wide. St: often bears interjoints branches which have infls. Ligule truncate 1 mm high so thinly hairy as back wedge as to look as tho only a ring glaucu
