577 = A. Alliniei DC. Bon 353= Heteropogon glaber Pers
11-30-30 Andropogon Confusus L. Cote III. 556 v
Grass in ft. or path just west divide on road from Skeros cemetery to Car Catala gorge. Dust.
Terminal 3' / 2 -5in long the upper +/- /2 being consist-
ing of awns highly rolled together. Awns
5-7cm, hazy, light brownator, darker below. These
awns come (?) (singly or several together) bearing
the lemma narrow cylindrical tightly rolled
dark brown with lighter brown hairs, sharp
culms with conspicuous tuft of brown hairs
(2-3mm from base) culms to tip of tuft.) The
?lemma is accompanied by a similar equally long ? palea. These enclose grain with taper-
ing into styles & 2 plumy stigmas (or ?)
Then grain not developed only styles & stig-
mas present) One difficulty in analysis
comes from fact that the awns is not attached
to ? lemma but seems to come from inside
its smooth narrowed base being enclosed
in ?lemma v ? palea as are stigmas.
Certain very thin scales-like fragments
similarly inside may be bits of an inner
true lemma but not with to which awn was
attached but this is only a conjecture. Note
that stigmas seem often & lie between awn
v ? lemma in such a way as to seems to
preclude this ever having been connected.
