Upper lip & corolla practically lacking (2 minute teeth only) so that fl. looks ligulate. The beautifully ciliate calyx teeth are conspicuous in bud (forming the velvety green centre of expanded rigid head) and again in fr (making the head look as this one of the Compositae).
