4-25-30 edges of ligules truncate, ciliate to pvd away on backs. Base blade down at node. Infl & almost sessile spikelets often with signs of 1 or 2 abortive ones below. Spikelets (at this stage) 3/4 - 1 in long, curv- mg outward with tips of florets pressed on upper side. Florets about 8-12. 1st glume 3-nerved, 2nd glume 5-nerved. Lemma 7-nerved shorter than palea & with short awn (less than 1/2 its length) from ot base apex. Paleas ciliate on keels, top rounded. Ofwi Bas "patula" means extended desc of Bromaeum is perhaps that except as to spikelets curved & lemma shorter than palea. 4-25-30 Trigella damascena L. KuI 478, Bas16, Bon 10, BMJCP. 279. Fl. dense with Trietum ovatum. Fl v immature. Note claw of petal abruptly bent up- ward enlarged at this point into meter part which is covered by scale as large as petal blade. Each seg. of blade of petal has dark green glandula grotubulance at base. As seed matures its inner lining is freed from wall making cross sections look like one capsule inside the other. Broad loo. loo finely cut than upper ones.
