223 4-25-36 Orobanche speciosa DC. Ku II #50 Box 343 F.l. numerous in field where Vicia Faba had just been cut. in middle of Genoa east Prairie. Spike 5 in with unjoined buds at top (Others in field taller). St thick 1/2 x 3/8 in purplish red almost very pubescence. Bracts broad, cldr v pubescence 3/4x, almost as long as corolla. (1 subtending each fl.) Calyx (?) 2 nerved lanceolate- lancear lobes, 1/5 mm long, purplish, gland-pub. at top, completely cut to base so that they look like lateral bracts but are inside the broad bract at its edges. Corolla Corolla 1 in long v about as wide (if fully opened) thc cal almost equal lobes rounded, cumpfed & bottled whiteish with purple veins, tube gland-pub. out. side.. Filaments affixed near base of corolla, have enlarged yellow base we mostly glabrous, but with pubescence near base on back v more or less gland. pubt near top. Anthers purple with clays fronts below. Style somewhat gland-pub, stigma with 2 horizontal lobes is reddish brown (not "violet clear" Box. Spike compact fragrant.
