4-14-30 Smilax aspera. (See 2-25 vs 2-27-30) A. No flor fr. Short cut from Fermenter towards divide Dense, short thorny tufts 6-10in high. Dobo. B. Nearby. Fr reddish, 5mm diam. C. Nearer divide. Plant more as usually seen but not climbing. All st. unarmed. More re- cent fruit bearing growth well armed. 1 or un- armed, mottled lighter green 1 1/2 in long x 3/8 in at base Fr reddish, 5 mm diam. 2/13 RBK 4-14-30 Salix F-l. & very young fr. Pollenae - Fermentas just on Fermenter Rd. Plant 6in high, root stockile, Pl much branching from base these with short 1 in or less lateral branches almost at right to main st. St. angled with downward pointed prickles, angles. Ls in bs, lanceolate ferveed, 7-9mm long. dark green v above almost cliningabove gray green below, small prickles on edges & mid- vein pointing upward. Lateral branches bear whk? blobs of them branch into (usually 3) peduncles. peduncles usually 3 ffd with 1 or more small bloat tip. F-ls very small, about 1/2mm diam, greenish with purplish tinged outside (not at all white). All seem fertile, the ovaries either smooth or papo. tuberculate.
