X Perhaps should be called raceme, not counting the pedicels
individual fls along the spathe. N.B. the loose airy
effect infl is due to these pedicels in fact that the branches
fl are longer than their spathes.
3-19-30 Iris
Fl. Im port at Hotel Fero-Casil but said by proprie-
tor to be wild & much larger in fields. Mrs
Richardson met on train also said it grew
wild. I not collected but generally feet fls.
Infl. along curving (not stiff upright) spathes,
Each branch subtended by green spathe like
bract 1/2-3/4 in long with acuminate curved tips.
Branches (upper part) infl. only collected 1 1/2 in
long bearing at tips at least 2 (perh 3 or perhaps
more) pedicelled fls, spathe bracted fls. Outer spathe
valv 3/4 in, green acute, inner one 1/2 in, green less
acute v each of the 2" & 3" fls (now faded) seem to
bear 1 more spathe valv. 1st fl to open has
pedicle 1/2+ in flat on top, rounded beneath. Tube
5/8 in ? which lower 3/16 is very. FL 1 3/4-2 in across
scale lavenderish blue all to seg. spreading.
Outer seg. obtuse 1/2+ in across at widest part, dentate
above middle, with a definite yellow fringed
blade like crest in middle (longitudinal veckul-
ing in ridge to base, set. 2 less definite lateral
ridges. Seg marked yellow around crest with
dot & dark markings of darker blue & brown around
this central portion to base. Inner seg oblong
footed & ruffled, widely notched at apex Claw
not definite v narrow as in garden Iris (below)
