Above the latter there comes in a series
of brick-red shales, that in places is finely rippled
and sun-eroded. Bear nothing in the way of
fossils under the room tracks, = Dalina series.
Nothing of the Shel derby was seen.
Of the Oriskany there is a basal black
flinty sandstone in thickness as at Cumberland.
We saw a number of the Lower Oriskany
fossils. Their men not less than 50 feet.
Over it then follows a considerable thick-
ess of coarse Oriskany sandstones that in the
deeper beds pass over into a conglomerate. Under
the fossils are again of pure quartz. In these
phosphorites, pyrites, Agates, oxides and
conglomerates, saw only 10 acres.
This section
is contoured and faulted so that we did not
make out the structure.
In this again they mine for a mineral pair
carb. It is a residual found between the Oriskany
there also seems to be another one between the Oriskany shale top bed
and the Marcellus. Have a sample.
