Finally we reach the upper level at Esperanza where we have supper. As Orizata is 4028 ft. and Esperanza (meridians 7,849) of 8,043^, we have risen in about two hours thus in 29 miles. riding of 4000 ft. This may be called the middle Cretaceous slope or all parts of which valley may be seen mechanic wells with the bottoms upadly and filling up. Beneath this eroded Cretaceous slope lies another the Tertiary eroded slope and then a shir deosher to the Caribbean. Down till the grade of the road (standard gauge) is 40/00.
