of a light yellow color much like the Comanche
rocks of this vicinity. None substantial houses of the
Comanche well nearly faced. The old missions and
the Calamos of undressed Comanche are the round
and motion.
Butter ships, saloons and emporas stars in just
evidence.
The white people are very fair, comely built and
evidently at the mother.
The topography here don't flat.
As we come south to Laredo the country gets
slightly more hilly, the forest trees disappear and we
are shrubs, much mesquite, the leaf cactuses (sp?)
are almost no grass. The flora is totally different. Water
is apparently very scarce and near Laredo we see
irrigation works - water is brought in modern structures
for the dikes to the east. All in all the country
has a desert appearance of there is too much
vegetation. A semi-arid region.
At 5 P.M. on came the Rio Grande. The water
flows at the rate of 3 miles per hour or faster in very
thick of a color between Khaki and gray. A clear flow
not seen in water before. Color much lighter than
clearer. The depression is hardly more than [illegible] feet.
