Put up at the new hotel Eugene. Eugene is a town of 18,000 and the shops have windows cleaned in the most progressive style. That it's a University town is noticeable in the number of young people about the theaters and ice-cream parlors. The latter are elaborate affairs here. Eugene, Oregon Wednesday March 2, Papers say that Oregon has had more rain by far than is usual. Hot again clear today. Talked telegraphy most of the day with Professors Packard and Dodge. Had lunch with them and Prof. Smith. Spent the evening at dinner at Packards home with Mr and Mrs Smith and Dodge. Retired at 10 P.M.
