"morning my slight cold which was nearly gone in some degree, I shall try the experiment tonight of sleeping on the top of the feather with my clothes all on. Had breakfast at 8 which consisted of cold mutton legs, boiled bacon two kinds of bread and butter and coffee. It has rained during the night and continues to do so this morning. It's however but a drizzle. Oh how glad I am that I have found protection here against the weather and have medical assistance by Dr. Jans, Lucy and his wife. This morning swelling continues but is localized to the third joint of the fore finger. Skin or puffed up that the skin in one place is red but no matter or yet appear. When are out if the other day this oozes forth at times a little somewhat gelatinous crusts. The treatment I now attend for hot water applications to small lugs of scalded hot oatmeal. I suppose this is to bring the festering to a head but it looks as if I am were correct in saying that these fingers do not matter but continue to swell. The pain is no longer acute
