The women as usual hustle around and prepare the meals to none of which they sit down with us. The beds are prepared in the parlor where there is one regular bed but the others are improvised on the floor. I am assigned to the regular bed while White and Sticky sleep on the floor on feather beds. I see. Sam appear to be a fine old gentleman looking out for his interests but otherwise perfectly proper. The stories we have heard of him I do not believe. He return about 9.30 P.M. In the morning White collected Crataegus No.2 above camp. Sep. 2-97 Thursday. Sarhal. Resting again badly last night. After breakfast the governor examined my finger and found it had not festered much at all. Swelling still continues. Under these circumstances I conclude to stay with the governor until Sunday in the mean he will treat my
