Aug. 8-97. Sunday, Scoresby Peninsula.
Arose at 7 A.M. with the sun out in all
its glory. A more beautiful day cannot be desired
in north Greenland. At this time we are just
north west of Dane Island. Two Kiakars come
to put us, being out evidently to catch seals. On
the front of their kiaks they have a small white
V shaped shield. I am told this is to prevent the
seal into the belief that the Kial is but a piece
of ice. Certainly the seal would not readily see the
behind the office.

At 11.10 A.M. we pass Dialomet. This
village is situated back of a high cliff and has a
proemore. A number of Kiakars come out to put
us and gave up traps
then with ammunition
and gave us bundle of ship biscuits which are
thrown into the sea as they race after it.
A more peaceful lot if you
can't be seen to better advantage than here in
Greenland. On the top of the bluff stand probably
30 to 40 women all in Sunday clothes bright
and pleasing. Their skirts are red, British pants
and pretty yellow boots.
