Vestibular glands - I had looked at K's slides
the night before & so asked about v.g.
G.H.: V.g are present in most ascophorans - not
present in anascons. V.g are char. at family
level; they are commonly infected by bacteria
V.g can be seen in whole mounts & up to
oil immersion in light microscopy -
you might need 200 slides to determine
orientation of v.g.
Question about "replenishment" of
seasonal bux. Acc. to G.H., larvae may develop
from zooicol or zooicol may start to bud
again. larvae go deeper in water in
Fall & Winter eg, Bugula from Nov.- Feb.
is v. low in glycogen & ! larvae cannot
develop. In Feb. glycogen builds up &
larvae begins to develop. larvae could go
down to 30m. It is the upper level which
is restrictive in occurrence of species
