Recollections - hope sequence is correct but my
kilm. Growth of Membranipora membranacea
prepared from G. lutumol Thesis, used in
classes. Photog. by Mr. Panlevue who is
doing a whole series.
Budding v. rapid & colony edge grows
v. quickly. longer growing edges - do they
produce longer zoecia? Yes -
G. explained development of polypide from
proximal wall & said there is no way
of separating polypide & cystid. Initial
"mass" of polypide appears at prox. end as
an area pulling away from prox. wall
this grows & forms area w/ diaphragm
from wh. tentacular sheath develops.
The funiculus starts out as single strand
& gradually separates into several strands.
lkewise muscles start to appear. Then
rapid dev. of digestive tract v. comes
being one of first parts to appear.
Polypide ultlimately breaks a membrane
to extude tentacles from operculum
wh, appears rapidly after diaphragm
development out. wh. nervous system
starts to develop.
Note: white globules (elysacell/keridles) at budding
edge of colony.
