29 8 April Sunday. Kobooten way to- Gun preparing coffee before six o'clock this morning saying that the day was all right - It certainly looks good. -Clear, almost no wind + temp perhaps -10° F, at 7:30 a.m. - Pot started at 8:20 (or lower) Ahquinalots go- ing with us as a supporting team. -Mootik, headed toward the north east meaning to keep well out of sea. Coqueah came along for a couple of hours to where he had left his kayak on the ice after hunting for seals some weeks ago - Matout- Hodder left him too, about 11 o'clock. We reached an open lead crossing, the path that we desired to take and forcing us toward the land. Could not cross it - We followed it for miles - Got four seals - Semerentz shooting two Ianchinway one & Ahquinalots one. The last way cached in the snow against the manisso return - Stopped seal hunt- ing and left the lead about 3 p.m., head- ing for Cape Middle. Reached the Refe at 5 p.m., and are now camped about 200 yds from the land - Using tent. Since snow is not good for build-ing foot chances are for a quiet night.
