Lee Doughty's clay pit at Plainview. Drp+ strike on the sandstone under the clay N. 20 E., 28° SE. Clay is red clay, pit shows mixture with crystal at edge, but plastic silty below and bedded. Only about 3' + bedded clay showing. Clay companies in - Sewer pipe, Am. Clay, Tile Co. Griggs says - 18-20 train loads /wk for 15-2yrs, but don't know. Test for burning to 2350 before melting, heard. Using for tile, brick & flower pots. Opened in 1952-Spring. Utigers Sinter plant Tried Lenzmere from Mt. Carbon - too sandy Now testing Bessel Beuten bought from Robinson at Rustler mine, this seems to be O.K. Not in production yet.
