Three instruments re- cord minor and three major earthquakes, and each instrument registers any movement either vertically or laterally. The record is made by a beam of light falling on a self recording drum having a sensit- ized paper. It is within working order to be the largest seismological station in the world. Also visited the workshops and computing offices of the Promont Delorme Observatory. There 50 men are working making apparatus, and the astronomers stop during their office meal. All live in Pasadena. By auto they go up to the Observatory to make their observations. Learn our Observatory or well equipped as this one. Pasadena is an immense place of pretty homes of the wealthy of the U.S. who have made their piles and retired to this balmy climate. For the most, it is surrounded thereby the San Gabriel Mt and all in somewhat filled with homes, and down up the mt. aids.
