San Diego, Tuesday Jan. 18. Worked all day in the Popes Library of the Natural History Museum. Looked through Cal. Reports but got little that was stirring now. Wednesday Jan 19 Continued the work of yesterday. Read many Fairbanks on Coast Ranges, and with the criticisms by Turner made some progress towards a better Paleography. At night fried up some of the crops. Thursday Jan. 20. Continued reading California geology. Cloudy and rainy in the N.W. to E. Friday, Jan 21. Once a little stiff with a cold contracted the first day in the Museum, beside a radia- tor and fat on a cement floor. Continued reading monstroses, but there was no spirit in it at all.
