126 Tuesday: Change of Children, free. Looks already sorry. Roof leaks half in trees, where roof is next to windows, walls are stained by leaks. Addressed to architects. One is the out- gone and independent but still Squats in place on it, old and gold (iron). Too careful to be good. Looks like one of 1861- 1865 had broken loose. Spent two hours in Field Museum, and while it is a good museum, it is not a leading one. It lacks above all things the scientific spirit... In the minutest room the cases on the end have a mahogany wall on which is printed a long general label in gold letters. It looks good but must be expensive. For reading purposes it can be done better in paper. I did not see more than 10 people in the museum. Not at all like New York. The smallness of the crowd speaks loudly against the lack of interest of the Chicagoans in their museum and is kindled for, Boring me thoroughly
