The Carox date group seems to be mixed up and it is difficult to determine the material collected at Altamont. It is apparently not true C. alata, the skeletons and archeas being too small. Oct. 22 (Monday) Helianthus and Silphium are still badly con- fessed, especially the latter. Found a pure white Aster cordifolius on Swin's Pond Ave. at the Meadow Pines, very pale and distinct from the ordinary plant (Sunday). Put in g. M. Oct. 23 (Tuesday). Drive to N.Y., stopping at Poconup Pond in Connecticut for Biders. Found some still exported from the ice house at the north end of the lake. Oct. 24 (Wednesday). Construction of rock wall continued. Several loads of post for local fire sections. Interviewed Mrs.Vanpant's girl for her terminus work. Edwards came afternoon, saying that he had found Carex linosa, Chigress, at Pine Swamp, and a good stand of Ophionum montanum and A. Bradleyi. Oct. 25 (Sunday). Forked River & Warfown, N.J. Stayed at the hotel at with Virginia Forked River. The chief plants of interest: Erechtites megalo- carpa is apparently common at the briders of marshes, several along a strip four terrmiles. Pycreanthum aristatum occurs at Warfown with Sabatia Cam- pensulata at the bridero of salt marshes. The broadly thick? pate leaves have a greasy feeling. This area, except
