Note: that in some heads the lower spikes
show no gls (perhaps aborted) as that at first
glance of ls seem to be at base of head making
for confusion in use of lacs. However there always
are spikes at base of tops in 6-21.

East glense or wood - ish to Kalmia. Collected thinking it
probably C. roea all the 4-5 spikes closes together,
making infl. of about 2 cm. But perigynia not turning
at base (cf with C. roea), Having G' Lady one arrives
at C. Mullenbergii. But plant not pale (low edem)
perigynia same green as C. roea and (see BvBl 352.) jagged
part of if - sheath is definitely regular. Hence acc. to B&B
cannot belong to Mullenbergianae but must belong
to Multiflorae none of which seems to fit.
Perigynia 3.5 x 2+ mm, the thin margins curving
inward, definitely veined on both faces; rough on
upper margins; bidentate beak .5 mm. Bracts
bristlelike. Scales thin, white, the green mid - nerve
prolonged into awn (lower ones longer than perigynia
but others mostly as long as or shorter than perigynia
and always much narrower. Culm to 23 in high,
sleender, sharply Aulus, emarginate near top. Lvs flat
4 mm wide, on lower third - quarter of culm but the long
blades reaching well up toward the top of culm.
