Several along Causeway rd. 6-22-38 Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. G828; = A. elatior L. BvBI 341 No flowers. Plants now all under 6 in. high. [Coc? laxiflora Lam. 6-25-38 6-22-38 Carex grisea Willd G 344; BvBI 406 Fl. So. side of drive (this C. observed from roads was expected to be C. aurea). Whole plant very pale green vs spikes greenish white. Sheath/leaves sharply almost winged triangular (this not men- tioned in books) leaf blades wide, soft. The upper bracts overtop culm but the uppermost bract is short v sometimes overtops very little, the 2nd bract overtopping most 1-1/2 in. Perigynia 3.5-4 mm (G days 4.5-5.5), nerves fine and not conspicuous. Style jointed just above its base (G, p.215). Female spike on slender peduncle (in one case) between middle of culm from 2nd fl above base. Female spike less than 1 cm long. Scales white with green mid-rib. Tips of female perigynia bent to one side so that opening is on the outward side (somewhat as in all G, C. laxiflora 342 but not as strongly.
