6-18-38 fragrance when crushed. Terminal buds, now, ovate 3-4 mm long v barba stubby looked with C. O.- Considers poss. that this is C. glabra or C. microcarpa which have lfts 5-7 (Hough's ill. shows 5 as do most of the books except BVB). [7-17-38 No flts. woods 20. Please stellate pubescence on petioles & lfts very similar. Lfts strange, venison colored. See Keel 286 for lfo. search Huntingtore for buds. 6-18-38 Carya cardiformis K. Koch G 332 = Nycia Buttom BVB I 580 No flts. woods in front house. lfts mostly 9; sometimes 7. Slender buds definitely yellow (the terminal, summer, bud & buds for next year in or just above axil of lft). Last yrs. growth pale. Pubescence v glando much as in C.O- v Ca-- Upper 3 lfts shaped like those of C.O- (not at all like ill. [BVB] v still more broadly obovate than ill Hough's 3.
