6-9-38 ??? Prunus nigra Ait G 499; BVBII 323 Hough 268 No fla fr. Many found in area, just the road side near not far in front road. Bushes were prob 3-4 ft v did not suggest young trees. Branchles slender, gray. Young growths light green, glabrous. Ivs exactly like ill (Hough), the largest 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 in on a petiole of 1/2 in which bears 1-2 (usually 2) light green glands near apex. Stipules (some fallen) are narrowly linear (1 cm long) with 1-3 lobes, branches near base with small dark (glandules?) football around it. Ivs thin, with short spreading hairs on both sides. Teeth serrated with dark gland. 6-9-38 Vitis No fla fr. Roadside southward. RBT assumes it is the same as found commonly in woods. Young branchy petiole v tendrils distinctly reddish. Youngest Ivs slightly coppery. Ivs mostly rattles like V. vulpina L. BVB # 507 but 2 Ivs are like ill of V. bicolor (upper left in ill) Nodes solid. Tendrils intermittent. Stems glabrous. Petiole of older Ivs becoming glabrous. Very young Ivs shining above v glabrous except for very short hairs on veins, veins beneath more generally supplied with longer hairs (white, spreading). Older Ivs are nearly glabrous. Since Ivs are not "wooly" or "pubescent of floccose" there seems nothing in our range acc to G 564 except V. vulpina L. (which grows on stream-banks or
