4-16-39 Helianthemum scoparium Nuth var vulgare Teps. T647; M 316 Fl. La Tolla, Riverside Country Club height. Very twiggy dead lot with almost naked young shoots bearing fls. Fls 10-12 mm diam. (See 1-20-39 4-16-39 Sidalcea malviflora Gray J630; M 305 Fl R.C.H. All fls perfect (see T). To desc of filaments "united -- into sets of 4 x 2" explained by fact that filaments are in groups of 6 of which 2 are shorter & somewhat divided from the other 4 (Cannot determine whether thesis true in all cases). Sets of stamens 5 x pers. alt with petals. See B.M.G.P. 484. [See 5-20-39 4-16-39 Scytrinichium bellum Wats J 257; M 98 Fl. L.T.C.C.H. Frequent along roadside [4-17-39 At Garden Club saw a pale form with white petals. 4-16-39 Lupinus [Mr G says this is] var ? Fls adv fr L.T.C.C.H. Would be thought L. Concinnus Agarde. J523; M 249 except that ovules seem always 4-5. (TvM agree 2-4). Plants 6 in high branched from base. Fls not whorled, basal not ciliate. Fls purplish blue, 8-9 mm overall, the standard shorter than wings. Racemes are often subsessile ( tho each branch has some racemes reasonably long peduncled) and at base & st o elsewhere in axils one finds subsissile racemes of 1-2-3 fls (now adv fr.)
