4-8-39 Fouquieria splendens Engelm. T641; M315 Fl. Ocotillo (very common) seen frequently 12-21v22-38 near Phoenix, Ariz, no fl or fr, v from train 12-25-38. 4-8-39 ? Euphorbia polycarpa Benth. T600; M288 Fl v young fr. A) At Banner. Resembles plant 3-23-37 (as remembered) But note a) v low very finely hairy. The purple glands edged with very narrow line of white. Info 5mm long B) At Ocotillo. Fl lobes same as (A). Pubescence same as (A) low to 2mm. long giving plant a much finer, lacy look. (In neither A nor B did R.B.K. count stamens (?) vfs. not ripe enough to be useful Q.E. p— given on Nat. Hist. Mus. list for 4-8-39) 4-8-39 The following pointed out by Mr. Gardner along route: San Diego, Lakeside, Ramona, Julian, Banner to Ocotillo.
