4-3-39 Baeria aristata Cov. J 1113; M 561 Early fl. Soledad. Exacty as desc. Has few small disks flo very glandular on outside Pappus lacking [5-10-39 Fls. Pony Grade. Pappus very distinctly scales almost fimbriate at top but not "tap- ering into awns" (M J T) linearifolia 4-3-39 Uropappus linearifolius Nutt J 992 = Microseris, brown, Schultz. M 586 Fl. Soledad. Exactly as desc. for v ill as far as evident at f.s. but might be U. lindleyae Nutt = M.-Gray. (A) Scapes 6" tall. Heads 2 cm from base to tip group. Rays pale flesh-yellow. Pappus 10-11mm overall (of which scales is 7mm). 30 spec. of this col. [See 4-24-39 (B) Scape 2½ in tall. Head 13mm from base to tip group. Rays def. yel- low. Pappus 6mm over-all (of which scale is 2mm). Only 10 spec. of this col. Perhaps (B) is in earlier stage than (A) or pons. is the other species. 4-3-39 ??? Lomation dasy carpum C.V.R. 722; M 359 (See 3-9-39) Fl vadv. fl. Soledad. Same difficulty as 3-9 in that petals are yellowish green, certainly not "white" (Should not be L. articulatum C.V.R since bracts of involucelo are "narrow x lanceolate" not "broad rounded to blunt and frs" pubescent" not "glabrous". Oldest fls. now 7mm long, def flattens wings; wings pear- pish. [5-25-39 Fls at Inspiration Point. Almost surely same as the very fine thick blade of spec with lighter coloured tips (conspicuously like spore cases of some ferns the flowering far from flat give plant a peculiar look. Petals as in 4-3-39.
